Celebrate Safe Neighborhoods at the 1st Annual Public Safety Festival and Softball Tournament

Atlanta, GA-- The Gwinnett County Police Department and the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services are pleased to announce the first annual Public Safety Fall Festival (formerly the C.O.P.S. Festival) to  be held on October 2, 2010. This year the festival will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Cool Ray Field (Gwinnett Braves Stadium) in Buford.

“The Fall Festival really celebrates the partnership between GCPD, GCFES, and the community as a whole. We encourage all Gwinnett County residents to join us for this fun, free event,” said Officer Jeffery Richter. The event will include a best two out of three friendly game of softball and will feature firefighters competing against police officers.

This year’s festival has a lot to offer the community, various units from police and fire and Emergency Services will set up displays and give demonstrations. These specialized units include the SWAT team, K-9, motors (motorcycles), aviation, training, G.S.T.A.R., fire truck display,  HazMat, Swift Water Rescue and information on fire safety and injury prevention.  “Both agencies are coming together to promote safety and to encourage partnerships with members of the community and public safety professionals,” said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge.

Organizers anticipate that other governmental and nonprofit agencies will be present to provide helpful safety information, including pet adoptions from the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter,

An area will be set aside that is geared towards children and will include moonwalks, face painting and other fun activities.  The event is free and all members of the public are invited to attend.
