1. Green Halloween: Halloween Costume Swap at Gwinnett Environmental Heritage Center.

As part of a Green Halloween, GEHC will be hosting a costume donation and swap. During the month of October, drop off old costumes, masks, and accessories in the GEHC lobby. The costume swap event will kick off on October 13th, from 1-4pm, and continue each Saturday, from 10am-4pm, until Halloween. Art for Aimee to raise money for Copeland family

NORCROSS, Ga. -- The city of Norcross will host a fundraiser to help Gwinnett County resident Aimee Copeland with her medical expenses.

Art for Aimee will begin at 6 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The event will play upon Aimee's love for the arts and will showcase the work of Gwinnett artist Vicki A. Johnson. A portion of sales of Johnson's work will go directly toward Aimee's medical bills.

Other activities include live music and a chance for attendees to meet Aimee.

Benefit Performance Raises $8000 for Compassion Programs

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Unmasked: The Phantom of the Flopera, an original musical parody produced by The Spirit of Broadway, was a smashing success.  The congregation at First Metropolitan Community Church of Atlanta hosted Unmasked on Saturday, June 9th to benefit the church’s Compassion Programs, including its Food Bank, Weekly Hot Meal for the Homeless and Needy, the Clothing Closet and other outreach initiatives.  The benefit, now in its third year, raised a record breaking $8000 which is more than a 30% increase over prior years.  Unmasked was so well-received that The Spirit of Broadway is currently in negotiations with two Atlanta area theatres to produce a finalized version of the show this fall or winter, including an original parody score.

'B at the Movies' this summer

ATLANTA -- Looking for some free family fun this summer?

ALDI and radio station B98.5 will present the "B at the Movies" outdoor movie series at several locations throughout metro Atlanta all summer long.

Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and chairs to the participating parks and watch the family-friendly movies on giant inflatable screens. Movies begin at dusk, but come out early for activities and giveaways.

Gwinnett schools among best for music education

Gwinnett schools among best for music education

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Gwinnett County Public Schools is among 176 school districts nationwide to be named a 2012 Best Community for Music Education in America.

The honor, which is given annually by the National Association of Music Merchants, chooses school districts based on their music curriculum, programs and public support.

About 99,000 Gwinnett students were enrolled in music education courses during the past school year. All of the county's traditional schools -- 77 elementary, 26 middle and 18 high -- offer some type of music education course and/or program.

Additionally, more than 250 Gwinnett County educators are certified to teach music.
