Internationally-renowned West African Drummer Leads Atlanta Workshop Friday & Saturday

Braimah’s master classes cost as little as $5 dollars and are part of the ‘DanceAfrica Atlanta Class Series’ produced by GIWAYEN MATA, Atlanta’s all-female dance, percussion and vocal ensemble.

Feb 15, 2011 (Atlanta, GA) – This weekend in Atlanta, Black History Month anticipates the teachings of a world-renowned drum master. Ghana-born djembe and dunun master drummer Weedie Braimah will teach a drum workshop at BNM Studio located 409 Mead Road Decatur, GA 30030.  Joined by New Orleans native  and dancer, Christan Carter, expect to learn how the dance movements correspond with high-energy West Africa drumming techniques.

BUFORD, Ga. -- The first annual North Georgia High School Art Show will be held later this month at Tannery Row Artist Colony.

This event, which is free for schools to participate in, features an exhibit and sale of work from some of northeast Georgia's most talented students. It will open on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Debbie Calvert and Susan Lynch are native Atlantans. Debbie has been a part of the Norcross community since 1976 when she began teaching at Peachtree Elementary School and later at Summerour Middle School until she retired in 2010. She credits her daughter, Leah, with helping her discover her talent for making jewelry twelve years ago.


Susan currently resides in Dunwoody. From cake decorating, homemade jams and jellies, cross stitching and singing, to her most recent love of jewelry making, Susan Lynch has appealed to her creative side for many years

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will hold an appreciation ceremony for more than 180 Atlanta-area music teachers Friday evening.

The teachers will be recognized at 7 p.m. by ASO president Stanley Romanstein. Afterward, the instructors will attend the evening's concert featuring the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Mussorgsky.

ASO cellist Joel Dallow will also receive a special award from Romanstein for his arts education advocacy work throughout Georgia.

Both the 8 p.m. concert and the preceding reception will take place at the Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree Street NE, Midtown.
