Leff’s Atlanta Media launches 'News from the PR Dept.'

Seven Years and Thousands of Updates Later, Leff’s Atlanta Media (www.LeffsAtlantaMedia.com) Continues to Track and Report on Atlanta’s Diverse Media Community

It’s been seven years since Atlanta public relations executive Mitch Leff launched Atlanta’s most comprehensive database of local media, Leff’s Atlanta Media (www.leffsatlantamedia.com), and the site continues to grow.  This month, the site will add a new section, “News from the PR Dept.,” tracking news items of interest to media and public relations professionals.

The new feature will appear on the Leff’s Atlanta Media blog and in the site’s monthly “Mitch’s Media Musings” newsletter and will include:

  • New account wins by local public relations agencies,
  • New hires at agencies and at corporate, government and non-profit entities,
  • Awards and recognitions and
  • News about new campaigns.

Items for submission to “News from the PR Dept.” should be sent to Beth Wieder at beth@leffassociates.com.

“Atlanta has one of the largest and most creative public relations communities in the country, and this new feature is our effort to highlight some of that talent,” said Leff.

Over the years, Leff’s Atlanta Media has grown to include new types of media and new tools for the hundreds of companies that use the service to market their products, services, events and issues to Atlanta’s diverse media community.

Designed to provide comprehensive contact coverage of Atlanta’s media outlets, the Leff’s Atlanta Media database includes contacts at newspapers, magazines, radio, television, blogs, websites and Atlanta-based national bureaus.  Contacts are easily searchable by outlet name, reporter name, beat or media type.

Keeping Track of Atlanta Media

When Leff launched his online database in 2005, Atlanta’s media was still very much as it had been for decades; newspapers and magazines often covered the whole metro area, and Internet content was considered sort of a bonus for a print publication.  Of course, the online portion has changed a little since then.

The Leff’s Atlanta Media database has grown from its original concept of simply providing comprehensive media contact information:

  • The “Mitch’s Media Musings” blog and newsletter gives detail on changes in the database, including notable staff changes, media moves, new programming, new sections/features and trends.
  • The site also offers basic PR Guidelines and templates for commonly used press materials, so a small business or non-profit could begin doing PR on their own.

Items on recent Leff’s Atlanta Media Blog posts include:

  • Details of changes in local Associated Press reporting staff,
  • News of a new editor at Creative Loafing,
  • Explanations of the sweeping overhaul and staff changes at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s daily community pages and
  • Best-practice recommendations for PR agencies for distributing press releases effectively.
