DUI suspect charged with trying to bribe Gwinnett cop

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A woman claiming to work on the set of the hit CW show "The Vampire Diaries" has been charged with DUI and bribery after causing an accident in Gwinnett County.

Chase Porter, 26, of Atlanta was arrested Mar. 22. Shortly before crashing her car on Interstate 85 south of Beaver Ruin Road, she was spotted driving more than 100 miles per hour and swerving across several lanes.

According to a police report, Porter had bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. When asked to get out of her Mercedes-Benz C250, Porter stumbled and was unable to walk on her own.

The arresting officer said Porter refused to take a field sobriety test and, after claiming she did not know what a medic is, turned down a medical evaluation. The officer handcuffed Porter and placed her in the back of a patrol car; Porter repeatedly tried to move her hands from behind her back to the front of her body, according to the police report.

When the officer told Porter she totaled her Mercedes and was going to jail, the suspect began to cry and said her dad was going to be "so mad" at her. She then claimed she was addicted to Adderall and deserved to go to jail, asked the arresting officer why he hated her, and refused to provide her address because she claimed she had already given it to the "fat officer" who first arrived on the accident scene.

Porter told the arresting officer she is an alcoholic and drinks all day while working on the set of "The Vampire Diaries." She then asked if she could go to rehab instead of jail, even though it would be her fifth trip to rehab.

At the Gwinnett County Police Department's West Precinct, Porter again refused to take a sobriety test. She tried several times to get up and walk around as officers wrote her citations. According to the police report, Porter said she was sorry and would pay all her dues, then claimed she did not want to go to "Hitlerville," as the arresting officer was Hitler and had "power" over her.

Porter then said, "Let's go, (expletive). Take me to jail," according to the police report.

The arresting officer told Porter she hit another car with an adult and child inside, and that both victims were hospitalized. When Porter learned her Mercedes has been impounded, she told the officer her father was "a very powerful man" and could pay thousands of dollars to keep her out of jail. The officer turned down the offer; Porter began to cry and threatened suicide, then backpedaled when the officer called the Gwinnett County Jail to say Porter was possibly suicidal. According to the police report, Porter said she believed she would be taken to the hospital instead of jail if she wanted to kill herself.

Porter was charged with DUI, bribery, failure to maintain lane, following too closely, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving, and driving without a license on her person. She bonded out of jail Mar. 29.

There was no immediate confirmation whether Porter actually works on the set of "The Vampire Diaries."
