LAA to Host Copa Latina de Atlanta: Fútbol, Familia y Fiesta at the Atlanta Silverbacks Park

Doraville, GA --  (English Below)  La Asociación Latinoamericana (LAA por sus siglas en inglés) invita la comunidad a participar en su segundo torneo benéfico, Copa Latina de Atlanta: Fútbol, Familia y Fiesta, organizado en colaboración con Univision 34 de Atlanta. Ya inició el registro de equipos, y el evento se llevará a cabo en el Parque de los Atlanta Silverbacks e incluirá actividades recreativas y entretenimiento gratis para toda la familia.

Adultos, adolescentes y jóvenes pueden jugar en el torneo y habrá divisiones para hombres, equipos mixtos y mujeres. Cada jugador recibirá una camiseta y hay dos juegos garantizados. Campeones del torneo recibirán un trofeo, dinero en efectivo y otros premios. Costo del registro: equipos individuales: $250; equipos de jóvenes (11 – 14 años): $140; equipos corporativos: $350.

 Participación en la Copa Latina de Atlanta apoyará los programas y servicios que la Asociación Latinoamericana brinda a la comunidad latina. La Asociación hace una diferencia en cuatro áreas de impacto: Inspirar a jóvenes latinos a lograr éxito académico; Ayudar a adultos a fomentar nuevas destrezas con cursos y entrenamientos; Proveer soluciones a familias con necesidades urgentes; y Ayudar a mujeres y niños a escaparse de situaciones de violencia doméstica

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Go see the “We Are Folk: Exploring Traditions in Southern Folk Art” at the Hudgens Center for the Arts. This exhibit is being curated by Steve Slotin of the Slotin Auction House which specializes in folk and outsider art. The Hudgens is located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.

Downtown Auburn will host an Armed Forces Day and Amvets Motorcycle Ride in Downtown Auburn on Saturday, May 21.

City of Norcross – The Norcross Police Department and United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia are teaming up to present a special event featuring family fun and celebrating kids of all abilities on Saturday, May 14th. The first annual C.H.U.K Run (Cops Helping Unique Kids) will begin with a 5K Run through downtown Norcross at 8:00 AM. There is a $20 registration fee, with all proceeds going to support United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia services for children and adults with disabilities. Participants can register online in advance at Active.com, with a guaranteed t shirt size. Day of event registrations will be accepted with t shirt sizes as available.

ATHENS, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

To commemorate National Public Gardens Day, sponsored by the Rain Bird and American Public Gardens Association, nationwide gardens are offering free admission with a coupon printout, which can be found here. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, located in Athens, is accepting these coupons. The Garden is located about three miles south of the University. The address is 2450 South Milledge Avenue in Athens.

Visit Vines Garden in Loganville on Sunday May 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for National Train Day at Vines Garden. This event is being presented by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. Engineers will be on hand holding information sessions on trains at the largest railroad in the Southeast.

ATLANTA -- Happy Friday! Celebrate the start of the weekend with a half-price however-you-want-it Frappuccino from Starbucks.

On May 6, participating Starbucks stores will hold the first Frappuccino Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All flavors and sizes of the popular blended coffee drink are half-price during Happy Hour.

Starbucks is also bringing back two coconut drinks for summer.

The Mocha Coconut Frappuccino is a signature flavor in the chain's Hawaii stores.

LOCAL PROFILE: Fort Yargo State Park

WINDER, Ga. – Go outside and be a kid, again, at the Fort Yargo State Park. The park, which is located between the capitol city and the land-o-Bulldogs, is a popular among city dwellers who want to a getaway.  

This park was built for the outdoor enthusiast. Visitors can take advantage of the parks eighteen mile biking and hiking trails, the 260-acre lake and wooded disc golf course. The lake offers swimming, kayaking, fishing and boating; so there’s something for everyone.

The park also has a campground and three cottages that rent for $130, each. Those who wish to rent a boat may do so for a minimal fee and others can play miniature and dish golf for $4 and under. The facility also is home to two tennis courts.

Upcoming Events: On May 7, the park will host the Dirty Spokes Mountain Bike Race from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
