ATLANTA -- Metro Atlanta residents have plenty of opportunities to give blood to the American Red Cross between now and the summer.

An up-to-date list of donation times and locations can always be obtained by entering a zip code at redcrossblood.org. Several blood drives have already been scheduled in Norcross:

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Pop singer, Gavin DeGraw will be performing at Atlantic Station’s “Winter Wonder Jam series. Atlantic Station will host a free concert series, which will conclude on December 23. The series has featured popular acts like: Sister Hazel and Citizen Cope, over the past couple of weeks. Attendees can text JAM to 57682 the week of each show to find out who plays next. The concert will be held at Atlantic Station’s Central Park.

The Atlanta Hawks will be holding an Open Scrimmage on Friday night from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Highlight Factory.

ATLANTA -- What better way to recognize National Cupcake Day than with a free ice cream cupcake?

On Thursday, Dec. 15, Marble Slab Creamery and MaggieMoo's Ice Cream and Treatery will give away ice cream cupcakes from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at all Metro Atlanta locations.

"This is the second year in a row Marble Slab and MaggieMoo's have celebrated National Cupcake Day with a giveaway of our ice cream cupcake," said David Kaiser, director of frozen goods for Norcross-based GFG Management, LLC, which owns both ice cream chains. "We love fun observances like National Cupcake Day and look forward to celebrating with our extremely valued customers by offering a free and very delicious ice cream treat."

The Gwinnett Braves will be hosting a Marines Toys for Tots Drive on Friday and Saturday at Coolray Field. The Braves want to make sure “as many children as possible” have a Merry Christmas. People can take their donations between noon and 3:00 p.m. and meet with former Braves pitchers Phil Niekro and Zane Smith and former Falcons defensive back Scott Case. For each new unwrapped toy you bring, the Braves will give you a ticket to exchange for an autograph. The Toy Drive will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Holiday programs arrive at science museums across metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The holiday spirit is blazing into the science centers across metro Atlanta providing an educational look at the winter night sky and how we live and work in space.

Several museums are hosting science and astronomy shows with a holiday twist, including exhibits related to living in space with unique views of our planet.

The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center will host a Christmas science day this Saturday from 10:00 a.m.

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

A program called, Hope for the Holidays, will be held at the Art House in Buckhead. A hundred local artists will be displaying their creativity from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event is being held to benefit a couple of local children’s charities in the area. This benefit will be donating funds to Jerusalem House, the Atlanta Mission, Chris Kids, the Children’s Restoration Network and Sheltering Arms. The Art House is located at 3193 Paces Ferry Place in Buckhead.

The McDaniel Farm in Duluth will be holding their fourth annual Civil War Holiday program from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The program takes a walk back to 1862 and tells participants how Union and Confederate soldiers marked Christmas during the Civil War. You can visit campsites, watch a drill or even make ornaments for soldiers’ trees.
