It's Termite Season - Can You Really Do Your Own Termite Control? | Home & Garden
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
As spring time approaches and the termites are out in full force, the question is often asked whether or not you can do your own termite treatment. While there are many great professional companies that can do a good job of getting rid of termites for you, it’s no secret that their services will cost you an arm and a leg, particularly for a termite treatment.
Some people don’t mind paying the high prices, but most people find themselves looking for alternate solutions, like DIY termite control. In order to preserve their business model, some professional termite exterminators will tell you that you can’t do your own termite control, either because you have to have special skills, or because you have to have a license to purchase the right chemicals. Unfortunately for them, neither of those things are true.
The truth is that you don’t have to have special skills, and you can buy the professional grade chemicals online. One of the best termiticides is called Termidor.
Doing your own termite treatment is no walk in the park, however. It does require a good amount of digging, and possibly some drilling. There are some great resources on the web that can teach you, in depth, how to do a termite treatment. Guides like that one will tell you everything you need to know, from what kind of treatment you will need to do (depending on the type of termites you have), to how much termiticide to buy.
Like I mentioned, the most difficult part about doing your own termite treatment is digging a six-inch deep trench around the base of your home. When you hire a termite extermination company, most of the cost for the treatment is really just going into the labor required to dig and drill. If you’re willing to do the digging and drilling, you can easily save over $1,000, which, for most people, is well worth it!
If there are areas around your home where a slab of concrete stands between you and the soil next to your foundation, you’re going to have to drill holes through the concrete to access the soil and apply the termiticde. This is the other part of doing your own termite treatment that requires some work, but it’s very doable.
Like I mentioned before, there are some great guides that will clearly explain how to do a termite treatment. I highly recommend reading that before you do it. The main point of this article is to spread the word that you don’t have to pay the steep prices that termite exterminators are charging. You can do it yourself and you will save a lot of money.
