Gwinnett County, GA--  (submitted by Gwinnett County Govt.)

Just one month ago over 1,000 Gwinnett residents participated in the first annual America Recycles Day celebration at Coolray Field. The paper and electronics recycling event saved the equivalent of 255 trees, 74,700 gallons of oil, 45 cubic feet of landfill space, 60,000 kilowatts of energy, 105,000 gallons of water and prevented over 700 tons of air pollution.

“The County’s inaugural America Recycles Day celebration was a success; however, we still need to keep this momentum going even through the holidays,” said Casey Snyder, the County’s solid waste director.

Norcross' Graves Park is Going Greener

Norcross' Graves Park is Going Greener

Atlanta, GA--  Graves Park will get more than 1,900 new trees under a reforestation contract that Gwinnett commissioners awarded Tuesday to low bidder Tri Scapes, Inc. The project follows recommendations made by the Engage Gwinnett citizens committee last spring. That group said the County should use SPLOST funds to make park renovations that will reduce operating costs like mowing and irrigation.

Under the almost $165,000 contract, Tri Scapes will plant about three acres of parkland with hardwood trees like maple, hickory and oak plus native understory species such as sourwood, redbud and sassafras during the early winter months.

“We’re making an investment that will make this park in southeastern Gwinnett more attractive and greener by adding much-needed native vegetation,” said District 2 Commissioner Bert Nasuti.

The 70-acre park is between Graves Road and the DeKalb County line south of I-85 near Norcross.

Loan Modification Could be Good, but Short Sale is Better says 1 Expert

Atlanta, GA--  As more and more Atlanta homeowners find themselves in financial distress and are forced to make tough decisions regarding their homes and specifically their dropping values and ballooning mortgage payments, we turned to a housing expert to help us navigate this complex situation.

Marian Anthony is a real estate finance expert and author of Short Sale RUSH- A How To Guide for Nonperforming Assets.  According to Marian, a Short Sale is more advantageous than a Loan Modification or a Foreclosure because "the reduced payoff in a short sale releases you from the debt obligation." He states that a foreclosure will ruin the homeowner's credit, and "a loan modification actually builds a debt trap around the borrower, milking them for every last nickel."

With so much information and marketing dollars being spent on homeowners getting into Loan Modification programs which may keep you bogged in debt for years, take Marian's su
