Train strikes car in Norcross, driver hurt

NORCROSS, Ga. (WXIA) -- Police said a man was hurt when his car was struck by a train in downtown Norcross Thursday evening.

Norcross Police said the incident happened along Holcomb Bridge Road between Thrasher Street and South Peachtree Street. They said that when the railroad crossing gates came down, the vehicle and its driver were unable to move from the tracks before the train collided with the car.

The driver was extricated from the car by Gwinnett County Fire-Rescue crews. He was transported to a local hospital. Authorities said the man was conscious and breathing when he was taken by EMS crews to the hospital. The man's present condition is not known. Police declined to identify the driver at this time.

Norcross Police said their investigation was ongoing and they were awaiting the arrival of railroad investigators to the scene.
