Drowning victim found in Gwinnett creek

NORCROSS, Ga. -- Gwinnett County firefighters have found the body of a man who drowned while trying to cross a creek on Labor Day.

The 25-year-old victim's body was discovered Tuesday morning in DeKalb County, about a mile from the Wesley Park Apartments in Norcross where he was last seen alive.

According to Gwinnett County investigators, the man and a friend were crossing a rain-swollen creek Monday when a sudden gush of water swept them off their feet. The friend tried to hold on to the victim but lost his grip. He was eventually washed downstream, where he was able to get out of the water.

The victim's body was sent to the medical examiner's office. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of all his next of kin.
