NORCROSS, Ga. -- An hours long standoff at a Norcross apartment complex has ended peacefully.
Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith said it began shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, when police were called about a domestic disturbance at the Grove at Stonebrook apartments on Beaver Ruin Road.
A man identified as 43-year-old Kelvin Barefield had holed himself up in a second-floor unit and was throwing items from his porch. Smith said several shots were fired at responding officers before the SWAT team was called out. No one was hurt.
Barefield surrendered his gun at about 8:30 a.m. He was taken into custody about half an hour later. Police determined that he was alone in the apartment during the standoff.
Barefield faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm. He is being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
