Parkview, GAC top first high school basketball rankings

ATLANTA -- The 2012-13 high school basketball season is underway, and two Gwinnett County schools currently lead the pack.

The Lady Panthers of Lilburn's Parkview High School are ranked No. 1 for girls. North Gwinnett, Wesleyan, Columbia and North Cobb round out the top 5.

For boys, Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross is No. 1. Other members of the top 5 include Miller Grove, North Cobb, Hillgrove and Shiloh.

ATLANTA -- USA TODAY has released its latest Metro Atlanta Super 25 Poll for high school football.

Norcross HS remains at the top, with Grayson, Sandy Creek, Lassiter and North Gwinnett making up the Top 5.

This week's poll sees two newcomers. Alpharetta HS is now ranked No. 22, while Jonesboro comes it at No. 24.

Walton and Stephenson, meanwhile, fell off the list.

Sandy Creek's Wiggins named Under Armour All-American

TYRONE, Ga -- Sandy Creek High School's Shaq Wiggins is the latest Metro Atlanta high school players to be named to the Under Armour All-American team.  Wiggins is one of 6 players from Metro Atlanta to be honored by Under Armour.

The 5-10, 165 pound Wiggins is the 6th ranked cornerback in the nation, the number 4 recruit in the state and the 36th overall recruit in the nation.  Wiggins is verbally committed to Georgia.

Sandy Creek's Shaq Wiggins joins, Norcross' Alvin Kamara, Milton's Karl Lawson, Central Gwinnett's Trey Johnson, Mill Creek's Kelsey Griffin and Grayson's Robert Nkemdiche representing Metro Atlanta in the on the Under Armour All-America Team.

The 6th annual Under Armour All-American Game will be played on January 4, 2013 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

ATLANTA -- The latest edition of the Metro Atlanta Super 25 Poll by USA Today is here.

As we head into the final week of the regular season, there is a change in the Top 10, but no change at the very top.

Coming off a bye week, the Norcross Blue Devils are still on top and will face winless Meadowcreek Friday night. Grayson is headed for a showdown with Brookwood this week. The Rams are 2nd, with Sandy Creek, North Gwinnett and Lassiter rounding out the Top 5.

M.L. King, Jr. is 6th, followed by Lovejoy, South Gwinnett and West Forsyth. Parkview rejoins the Top 10 after beating Berkmar last week.

Marist rises from 23rd to 11th after beating Chamblee, and North Cobb returns to the poll at No. 18.

Stephenson and Kell rejoin the poll at 24th and 25th, respectively.

Gainesville and Buford drop out of the Super 25 this week.

ATLANTA -- Each week American Family Insurance brings you the All Metro Atlanta Top 5 Performances.  It's a recap of the best plays from Friday Night Alive.

This week number 5 is Norcross quarterback Joseph Wilber's 31 yard pass completion to Clinton Lynch.  The Blue Devils stay unbeaten with a 36-3 win over Peachtree Ridge.

The number 4 play is Collins Hill's Tyler Henderson's 42 yard touchdown run.  North Gwinnett won the game 38-24.

The number 3 play this week Marcus Miller's touchdown run, as Marist beat Stone Mountain 34-8.

The number 2 play comes from the Alpharetta-Lambert game. Raiders QB Joshua Dobbs connects with Carlos Burse for the touchdown.  Alpharetta has won 4 in a row after beating the Longhorns 35-7.

ALPHARETTA -- This week, No. 1 will face No. 2 when the four-time defending Class A state champion Wesleyan girls host the St. Francis girls.

Wesleyan has played for the state title eight years in a row, and has won the last four straight. The Lady Knights are 16-2 so far, after going 24-4 last season.  Three of St. Francis' four losses last year were to Wesleyan.

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- This season, 11Alive.Com and HighSchoolSports.Net will have a weekly Super 25 high school basketball poll for Metro Atlanta schools.  The poll, which is provided by USA Today, will rank both boys and girls teams from all classifications using the Massey Ratings.

With teams from the Atlanta area being ranked among the nation's best again this season, the Super 25 Poll will be a weekly measuring stick. We hope it will spark a conversation about who holds the title of top basketball team in the Atlanta area. We start with the poll for the week of January 2.
